Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
1. How long is the program?
The length of the program varies depending on your child's developmental delays, the hours spent in therapy, and the level of homecare commitment. On average, our program takes a minimum of 12 months, assuming one session per week. Additional progress can be made with school holiday intensives or more frequent sessions, where available.
2. How soon can we expect to see results?
Some families notice changes as quickly as one day to one month, depending on the level of delay and commitment to the homecare program. Many parents report seeing progress within a week or two.
3. Is this therapy compatible with my child’s current medications?
Yes, our program is movement-based and has no contraindications with medications your child may be taking.
4. How much time will homecare require, and what should I prioritise?
Initially, homecare may take 20–30 minutes, 2–3 times per day as you learn the routine. Over time, as the exercises become familiar, this reduces to:
5–10 minutes of reflex work
5 minutes of core and balance exercises
Additionally, hemispheric tools should ideally be used for one hour, up to twice daily, during everyday activities such as getting ready for school, eating breakfast, or relaxing after school.
To begin, we prioritise Primitive Reflex Integration (PR Integration) with hemispheric stimulation, which typically takes 10–20 minutes.
5. How can I integrate homecare activities into our daily routine?
Homecare activities can easily fit into your family’s schedule. Hemispheric equipment can be used during:
Watching TV or screen time
Driving to school
Mealtime
Homework or playtime
Some families prefer mornings before school to help calm their child, while others incorporate the exercises after school or before bed. Find a routine that works best for your family—it’s all about consistency.
6. Do all aspects of homecare need to be done equally, or can we focus on specific areas?
We tailor the program to each family’s unique needs and limitations. While the ideal commitment includes stimulating reflexes, core, balance, and rhythm work 2–3 times per day, we’ll work with you to create a realistic plan.
7. How often will clinic visits be necessary, and how long will they last?
Appointments are offered in one- or two-hour sessions:
One-hour appointments alternate between the tech room and exercise room.
Two-hour appointments cover both areas in one visit.
Initially, we recommend at least one 2-hour appointment per week to provide intensive neural stimulation. Costs for these sessions are $250.15 per hour.
8. Will my child definitely see results from the BrainSTIM program?
Every child is unique, and while we see many children make incredible progress, outcomes vary based on several factors. Success depends largely on the commitment to the home-based program, the child’s engagement, and the complexity of their individual needs. We provide the tools and guidance, but consistency in completing the prescribed exercises is key to seeing meaningful improvements. Some children may also benefit from a more individualised one-on-one program for extra support.
9. I’ve seen great testimonials from other families—can I expect the same results for my child?
Testimonials reflect the experiences of families who have worked hard to implement their child’s program, but every child’s journey is different. While we do everything possible to set your child up for success, progress is determined by factors like adherence to the home program and the child’s individual challenges. We make no guarantees, but we do promise to provide the best strategies and support tailored to your child’s needs.
10. The home program sounds like a lot—what if my child resists doing it?
We completely understand that getting a child to engage in therapy exercises daily can be challenging! Paediatric therapy takes effort from both the child and the caregiver. That’s why we work closely with families to create an achievable plan that fits into daily life. It’s important to find ways to make the activities fun and rewarding while maintaining consistency. We’re here to support you with strategies to keep your child motivated and to help troubleshoot any challenges along the way.
